Japan’s Three Great Fire Festivals: Fukuoka Unveils a Mega Torch!
Japanhas various festivals, among whichFukuokaOniyo has a history of over 1,600 years, to pray for household safety, disaster prevention, and good fortune,Fukuokalocals hold a fire festival every year on the 7th day of the New Year!
In the midst of freezing weather, a group of strong men ignite six mega-sized torches, each with a diameter of 1 meter and a length of 15 meters, which are eventually carried to a large central torch, creating an incredibly spectacular scene!
This annual fire festival takes place atFukuoka’s Daisenji Tamatsushima Shrine in Kurume City. Many people gather to witness this event, and you might also want to join in if you’re visiting the area.
