Feast on Honey Peaches and Meet the Honey Peach Princess — The Lalashan Honey Peach Night Has Arrived

On this scorching summer day, come to Lalashan, the hometown of honey peaches, to enjoy the fruit and beat the heat. Today (the 6th), at 6:30 PM, the Fuxing Township Office in Taoyuan County will hold the “Summer Love Peach Fun” event at the Shangbaling Parking Lot on Lalashan. The event will include the Honey Peach Night and the finals of the Honey Peach Princess competition, plus performances by singer Zhang Xinjie and Li Xuanrong from the “Starlight” group, as well as indigenous artist Wen Meigui.

“Recent limited rainfall has resulted in even better quality honey peaches, with richer aroma and higher sweetness — the average sugar content reaching 12 degrees,” said the township office. This year’s “Sweetness King” selected during the Honey Peach Night is expected to surpass last year’s record of 14 degrees. Additionally, the Honey Peach Night will crown the 2013 Honey Peach Princess from among the six finalists.

The County Government’s Tourism and Marketing Bureau stated that to help the public purchase “authentic” honey peaches, fruit farmers are currently setting up stalls at the County Government Plaza and Cihu Parking Lot. The Honey Peach Night will also feature five stalls selling genuine honey peaches.

The township office also teaches the public how to identify authentic honey peaches: “Authentic honey peaches have a fuzzy exterior, white with hints of red.” A pack of 10 is priced around NT$500, which is cheaper than last year. Visitors can purchase them in advance on the mountain for an on-site experience and can be assured they won’t be sold fake produce.
