After the opening of Taipei Metro’s Dongmen Station, the most immediate impact was the revitalization of the Yongkang food scene. Nestled in a lane off Jinhua Street,Hanji Tiger Noodle House, recommended by celebrity couple Blackie Chen and Patty Hou on Facebook, serves its signature"Tiger Spicy Hot Pot", which delivers a fiery kick but boasts a surprisingly sweet broth. Even many food bloggers can’t resist its allure.
The signature "Tiger Spicy Hot Pot" offers three meat choices: beef, lamb, or pork, served over chewy ramen, glass noodles, meat soup, or even crispy rice crust as a base. Toppings include bean sprouts, tofu skin, and fresh duck blood. The most authentic way to enjoy "Tiger Spicy Hot Pot" is to dip the rich toppings in the house-made spicy red chili oil. Since the chili oil sauce is brewed over years, first-timers are advised to start with a mild spice level.
The broth of "Tiger Spicy Hot Pot" is meticulously crafted with Sichuan peppercorns, combined with spices like amomum fruit, prickly ash, cinnamon, sandalwood, star anise, bird’s eye chilies, red peppers, and nutmeg, all simmered with bone broth for hours. It delivers a layered, lingering spiciness that’s flavorful without being overwhelmingly hot.

Hanji Tiger Noodle House owner Zhang Benliexplained that he insists on using natural ingredients, never outsourcing mass production. The marinating process is time-consuming, but this dedication ensures customers enjoy both peace of mind and satisfaction.
After seeing Blackie Chen’s Facebook endorsement, student Qian fell in love with "Tiger Spicy Hot Pot." He described the broth as sweet with a refreshing, non-salty spiciness—fiery yet balanced, with a rich variety of toppings that make it unforgettable no matter how many times you try it. "I have to order it at least once a week," Qian said. "I often finish the noodles but hate to drink up the last of the broth."
For those who can’t handle spicy food, the Clear-Braised Beef Noodles are a great alternative—sweet broth paired with chewy ramen, tender yet juicy beef that’s easy to eat without getting stuck between teeth.
