 Summer is here — are you ready for a holiday in Kenting? The sunny Hengchun Peninsula, with its beaches, is a favorite summer destination for many to enjoy the waves. For a long weekend, it’s recommended to plan a two-day, one-night trip to kick off beautiful summer memories with bright sunshine, fresh air, white sandy beaches, and azure waters.

On the first morning, arrive at Zuoying High-Speed Rail Station. After getting off, you can first visit the famousChedian Fu’an Templeto pray for peace and safety for your family. Inside the temple, you can see the magical “automatic money-burning furnace,” where joss paper placed at the furnace opening is blown inside one sheet at a time by the wind. This is a famous attraction at Fu’an Temple that draws many visitors to witness this wonder.

Next, head to “Pan’s Farm” near the hot spring area in Sichongxi, Pingtung. This is the original shop that created red-heart duck eggs. Pan’s Farm raises 1,500 ducks in a free-range system. Every morning, the ducks are let out and spend the whole day playing and swimming in the water, only returning home in an orderly line in the evening. These energetic and strong ducks produce yolks that are firm and intact — even if you poke a hole with a toothpick, no yolk will leak out. Pan’s Farm offers egg-pickling experiences for both adults and children, where you can personally select a whole duck egg, roll it in red clay, and take it home to wait for it to be “ready.” You can also buy salted duck eggs on-site, which are rich and delicious in flavor.

Have lunch around Sichongxi and try some local snacks. In the afternoon, take a relaxing stroll through the underwater world of theNational Museum of Marine Biology and Aquarium (海生館). At the aquarium entrance, children can safely play in the shallow pool, while inside, you can get up close to marine life and walk through the 81-meter-long “Ocean Tunnel,” the longest in Asia, strolling through a massive man-made ocean with 1.5 million gallons of water to see the vibrant colors of the underwater world — a truly refreshing experience.

In the evening, you can enjoy various international or creative cuisines nearby. After a satisfying meal, take a stroll along Kenting Night Market to soak in the tropical nightlife. For the night, stay at the vivid green “Oasis Homestay,” located about a 15-minute drive from Kenting Night Market. Nestled among residential buildings, the homestay’s bold green color makes it stand out. Sit on the balcony lounge chairs in the evening, gaze at the starry sky, and drift off to sleep in the cool breeze — recharging your energy for the water activities the next day.

On the second day, enjoy a full day of water activities. At the various beaches in Kenting, you can choose jet skis or banana boats. For travelers who love Kenting but want a different experience, consider theKenting Caesarall-day snorkeling and kayaking tour. This activity lets you discover hidden beach scenery, experience the thrill of floating like in the movie Life of Pi, and explore the pure underwater world of Kenting. However, getting there isn’t easy — you must first give up using water sports tools like jet skis or banana boats, and paddle a kayak manually for over half an hour before reaching the secret beach through ocean waves to dive in and see the fish.
