If you want to gaze at the mysterious beauty of Guishan Island emerging and disappearing on the horizon, the "Toucheng Coastal Forest Park" in Yilan is a great choice. But what has recently turned this place into an Instagram hotspot isn’t the vast blue sea — it’s a weathered, old spiral staircase tucked away in a corner of the park. With some creative touch-ups, this once-forgotten structure has transformed into a photogenic backdrop that makes visitors’ photos pop. It has quickly become a favorite spot for many travelers.

Toucheng Coastal Forest Park was formerly the Toucheng Beach. It used to be a paradise for locals to swim and play by the sea. However, due to coastal erosion that led to the disappearance of the sandy beach, it could no longer serve as a water recreation site. Yet the expansive blue seascape and coastline were too beautiful to lose to obscurity. Later, the Yilan County Government transformed it into Toucheng Coastal Forest Park, opening up the land area for visitors to camp or relax, offering a laid-back experience of sea-viewing and quiet contemplation.

In a corner of the park stands an octagonal spiral staircase, nestled where the land meets the sea. With its rustic vibes and artistic atmosphere, this once overlooked structure has become a prime photo location. Whether you approach it from the base or the top, the surrounding sea and the pathway formed by the stairs create an otherworldly scene. It has become a much-loved photography spot for visitors.

One of the most popular photo angles is lying on the ground while a friend takes a shot from above, crafting a surreal scene as if you’ve fallen into a dream. From the top of the staircase, you can also capture stunning panoramic views, which is why it’s become one of the hottest check-in spots on Instagram right now.
