The world’s quietest adult pool — “18+” with a hidden twist

As we grow up and realize how mundane the world can be, don’t you sometimes wish to find a place to hide away — ideally somewhere so quiet you can’t hear the hustle of the city or the noise of traffic on the streets? At Club Med in Cherating Bay, Malaysia, there is a pool that claims to be the quietest in the world. Not only does it offer breathtaking views of the South China Sea, but it also provides an exclusive “18+” adult experience.

Boarding the Club Med village train, which departs precisely on the hour, and passing through vast tropical rainforest areas, the journey feels like escaping the crowded cities of Taiwan — but even arriving in Cherating Bay isn’t enough if you’re craving ultimate tranquility. That serenity can be found aboard the little train. After about a ten-minute ride, Pantai Cenang on the South China Sea comes into view. While water activities are tempting, what’s even more anticipated is that exclusive “18+” pool area.

Officially designed, completed, and opened in September 2012, this pool, called the “Quiet Pool,” is a Zen-inspired space exclusively for adults. It is the third such Quiet Pool to be introduced in Club Med resorts after those in Phuket, Thailand, and another location. Passing through the symbolic entrance of the Quiet Pool, you’ll find a curved low-wall pathway beside lush green lawns. A prominent “18+” sign catches your eye — this restriction exists to eliminate any potential sources of noise, creating a perfectly tranquil space just for adults, which unfortunately means saying goodbye to younger visitors.

Club Med’s all-inclusive holiday packages are nothing new to many. Here, parents looking to unwind can leave their children, aged four months to 17 years, in the capable hands of the resort’s professional G.Os (Gentle Organizers). For a while, they can set aside the responsibilities of parenthood, grab a favorite book, head to the bar next to the Quiet Pool, and order a preferred drink. Perhaps they’ll simply zone out — this blissful sense of leisure makes it hard for busy adults to leave.

Surrounding the Quiet Pool are various types of loungers. Adults can choose from regal-style daybeds, sunbathing loungers in the pool, spots to gaze at nearby sailboats, or cozy sofas perfect for quietly watching the sea. Adult guests here all share one unspoken rule: no talking. Each immerses themselves in music, books, or simply the view, yet all are wrapped in the incredible serenity of this stunning setting.
