No need to rely on the Suhua Highway conditions to visit Hualien – taking the Lina Ferry is also an option

Setting sail on the Pacific "Blue Highway" from Su’ao to Hualien by ferry takes only about an hour, so the Hualien authorities have been actively promoting related collaborations. The high-speed passenger and cargo ferry Lina Ferry is set to make its maiden voyage on August 7 and officially begin carrying passengers on August 8. Travelers heading to Hualien will no longer have to depend on the condition of the Suhua Highway.

In the past, the main route to eastern Taiwan, the Suhua Highway, played a critical role, but during stronger typhoons, sections of the highway often deterred travelers and frequently ended up closed for days. Starting August 8, traveling to Hualien by Lina Ferry not only takes half an hour less than driving, but the maritime scenery along the way is sure to offer a very different experience from the land route.

Secretary Li of the Huagang Group stated that in May, the Lina Ferry successfully completed a test voyage from Su’ao to Hualien Port. From August 8 to September 8, it will officially open to passengers, perfectly timed with the tail end of the summer travel season, while also bringing new benefits to Hualien’s transportation.

The Lina Ferry, which can accommodate up to 800 passengers, will operate one daily trip (except Tuesdays) from August 8 to September 8—departing from Su’ao to Hualien Port at 9:00 AM and returning from Hualien to Su’ao at 2:00 PM—offering travelers a brand-new choice. Those wanting to experience the Pacific "Blue Highway" should make the most of this Lina Ferry sailing schedule.
