Another business is treating everyone to delicious food again. With Christmas and the 2018 New Year approaching, the breakfast shop “Birds Get to Eat Worms” has also launched a free meal event. From now until January 2, 2018, friends who have birthdays on December 25 or January 1, or whose names contain either the character for “Christmas” or “New Year” from “Merry Christmas” or “Happy New Year,” can visit the store, show their ID, and check in (on either Facebook or Instagram), to receive a complimentary main dish (egg crepes, hot dog buns, French toast—flavors not limited).

Birds Get to Eat Worms is different from typical breakfast shops. It specializes in egg crepes infused with yakitori (grilled meat skewer) elements—the beef or pork inside is grilled fresh, making it less greasy. The egg crepes here are called battleship egg crepes, which are essentially thick, solid egg crepes that are rolled up, sliced, and served upright, topped with various ingredients and sauces, resembling sushi battleships.

In terms of flavors, you won’t find typical breakfast egg crepe options here. Instead, they offer creatively developed crepes by the owner—inspired by Japanese yakitori, there are options like kimchi yakitori, scallion yakitori, mentaiko cheese, and Japanese teriyaki chicken, as well as Taiwan’s favorite spicy hotpot flavor. Owner Lin Jie says the signature exclusive spicy hotpot flavor is brushed with a self-developed spicy sauce and topped with youtiao (Chinese fried dough sticks), a staple in hotpot. Other crepe flavors also use high-quality sauces from well-known Japanese and American brands, aiming to move beyond the usual practice of simply adding soy sauce paste. At Birds Get to Eat Worms, you don’t need to add soy sauce paste to your crepe.

Compared to typical breakfast shops, the portion size of the egg crepes at Birds Get to Eat Worms feels more generous. Lin Jie explains that this is because their crepe wrappers are specially made by a time-honored factory with 30 years of history—the wrappers are thicker and crispier.

Aside from battleship egg crepes, Birds Get to Eat Worms also offers hot dog buns and French toast, providing more choices.

In terms of pricing, battleship egg crepes range from NT$45 to NT$80, hot dog buns from NT$50 to NT$85, and French toast from NT$40 to NT$60.
