Gazing at the most beautiful sea from the most beautiful station     The revival of Duoliang Station

Dubbed Taiwan’s most beautiful train station, “Duoliang Railway Station” in Taimali, Taitung, attracts throngs of tourists. From the platform, you can admire the Pacific Ocean and the parallel views of Provincial Highway 9 and the South-Link Railway. When a train speeds past right before your eyes and disappears into a tunnel against the backdrop of the deep blue sea, it sends railway enthusiasts into a frenzy.

A group of high school students spent a semester visiting train stations across Taiwan every weekend, exploring over 300 stations nationwide. They unanimously voted Duoliang Railway Station as the most beautiful. Duoliang was slated for closure in 2006 due to operational considerations. Though the station was shut down, its beauty couldn’t be erased. What makes Duoliang unique is that just beyond the striking red railings lies an expanse of blue where sea meets sky—a breathtaking view still offered to passersby even after its closure.

Duoliang Station continues to draw visitors each year. To sustain the railway enthusiasm, the Taimali Township Office and Taiwan Railways Administration collaborated to renovate facilities around the station. Nowadays, the area near Duoliang Station features not only ocean-view and railway-view platforms but also a mountain loop trail. In partnership with the Xiangyang Xinchuan Wood Workshop, visitors can admire exquisite woodwork, or sit at outdoor tables and chairs, sipping coffee while enjoying the scenic views of the sea, railway, and highway.
