Taipei City and Hamamatsu, Japan Sign Sister City Agreement to Exchange Urban Charms

The most famous attraction in Hamamatsu City, Shizuoka Prefecture, Japan, is Lake Hamana, which draws a large number of tourists from around the world every year. Today (31st), Taipei City and Hamamatsu City signed a tourism exchange sister city agreement. Hamamatsu Mayor Yasuyuki Suzuki, along with a delegation of city council members, and Taipei Mayor Hau Lung-pin formally signed the contract in the Taipei City Council chamber.

Mayor Hau Lung-pin stated that tourism exchanges between Taiwan and Japan have always been very close. According to statistics, nearly three million people traveled mutually between Taiwan and Japan last year. Of the Japanese visitors who come to Taiwan, 93.13% travel to Taipei City. After signing this agreement, the goal will be mutual promotion of tourism and increased travel between the two cities.

Hamamatsu Mayor Yasuyuki Suzuki mentioned that Lake Hamana within Hamamatsu City boasts abundant tourism resources, offering a variety of water activities. Additionally, Hamamatsu is also the birthplace of TOYOTA, YAMAHA, and Kawai Musical Instruments, as well as home to other outstanding small and medium-sized enterprises. Hamamatsu is actively shaping the entire city into a music capital. With the signing of the tourism exchange sister city agreement with Taipei, he believes it will bring more tourism benefits and exchanges to both Taipei and Hamamatsu.

During the exchange of gifts, when Suzuki presented Mayor Hau with a commemorative tie from Hamamatsu, Hau took off his own tie on the spot and put on the new one, showcasing the mayor’s friendly and lively side.

Hamamatsu City is located in Shizuoka Prefecture, situated between Tokyo and Osaka, covering an area of 1,558 square kilometers with a population of approximately 820,000. In addition to mature industries such as textiles, musical instruments, and transportation machinery, the area is also home to world-class companies like Suzuki, Honda, Yamaha, and Kawai. Moreover, natural landscapes such as Lake Hamana and the mild climate foster rich agricultural, forestry, and fishery resources.
