Writing love declarations on the street? Experience the romantic “City of Love” in Tainan this Qixi Festival

The “City of Love” is in Tainan！Tainan’s Qixi Carnival kicks off on August 3. On the opening day, a “Street-Closing Gala” will be held at the Tainan Hall Square, featuring performances and creative market activities. Couples can use chalk to directly graffiti on the road surface and write their little love messages. The event also offers a “100 Ways to Hold Hands” photo activity where couples can take pictures within a specially designed dreamy lace photo frame and post them online.

Tainan’s Love City Qixi Carnival will run for a month of exciting activities starting in August. On the opening night on August 3, a section of You’ai Street from Nanmen Road to Zhongyi Road in West Central District will be closed to traffic. The public can freely graffiti and write love declarations on the street. In addition, there will be creative market stalls, including “Hearts Connected” printmaking, the “Cupid’s Arrow” game, “Bonds of Love” bracelet making, and crystal ball fortune-telling. The event also connects with nearby attractions such as the Confucius Temple, Taiwan Literature Museum, and Fuzhong Street shopping area.

The Tainan City Government Cultural Affairs Bureau stated that in previous years, the most well-known Qixi events in the ancient city were the “Coming-of-Age at 16” ceremony and worshiping the Moon God. This year, the theme is “Four Joys of Life,” covering four stages: establishing a career, getting married, having children, and reaching adulthood. The aim is to help the Qixi Carnival become more than just a celebration, but a way to rediscover the cultural depth and values of Tainan through rich cultural activities.

The Cultural Affairs Bureau also offers in-depth guided tours taking the public into Tainan’s ancient temples to experience the unique four-stage customs of the locals. Multiple artists will also hold installation art exhibitions at several themed sites across the city.
