Budget airline Peach expanding in Japan? New Taipei-Sapporo and Taipei-Sendai routes possible

Taiwanese travelers love independent travel to Japan, which has led to continuous expansion of new routes by Taiwan-Japan budget airlines. Japan’s low-cost carrier Peach Aviation announced on its Japanese website the potential addition of four new routes—Taipei-Sapporo, Taipei-Sendai, Sendai (New Chitose)-Sapporo, and Sapporo (New Chitose)-Fukuoka—with a tentative launch in September. However, the website has not yet provided detailed information. Peach Taiwan’s general agent, Wan Jun Travel Agency, also mentioned that they have not received any official confirmation from the headquarters, but the company does plan to add new destinations this year. The specific routes and launch dates will be announced once the details are confirmed.

Currently, among Taiwan-based budget airlines, only Scoot operates the Taipei-Sapporo route with three flights per week. Although Tigerair Taiwan had announced plans to launch flights last year, the service remains delayed. The Taipei-Sendai route is currently only operated by Tigerair Taiwan, with four flights per week. In the past, Taiwanese travelers wanting to fly on budget airlines to Sendai or Hokkaido often had to transfer to domestic flights within Japan. If Peach Aviation’s new routes are confirmed, they could offer more choices and may also impact current ticket prices due to increased competition.
