The popular "Fu Jen Garden Night Market" in New Taipei City, one of the city’s most frequented night markets, temporarily closed last month due to Typhoon Soudelor. After a month of renovations, it reopened on August 18. Operating days have expanded from the original Tuesday, Friday, Saturday, and Sunday to include Wednesday as well. On the 24th and 31st, there will also be an on-site “Scan QR Code to Get a Voucher” event to boost foot traffic and sales.

According to the night market management committee, the typhoon damaged the roof structure, leaving over 70% of vendors unable to operate. Over the course of the month, the market lost hundreds of thousands of dollars in revenue. Many visitors came only to find it closed and were visibly disappointed. After a full month of recovery, the market officially reopened on the evening of August 18. Going forward, Wednesdays have been added as operating days, and stall rent has been waived on that day. Even before reopening, vendor spaces were booked up almost instantly. Popular stalls such as Crispy Squid, Fried Rice Balls, and Pancakes are all set to welcome back the crowds.

Located on Section 2, Zhongshan Road, Taishan District, Fu Jen Garden Night Market covers an area of over 2,500 ping (approximately 8,230 square meters) and is touted as the largest night market in Northern Taiwan. Since its opening two years ago, it has consistently drawn large crowds. Among its offerings, the "Black Lulu Tapioca Pearls," "Wild Game Skewers," and "Cockfighting Three-Star Scallion Teppanyaki" were ranked in the top three of the 2012 New Taipei City Night Market Popular Stalls Poll. Other crowd favorites include Peking Duck Sandwiches, Grid Q, Fried Rice Balls, Crispy Squid, and Tamagoyaki—all hugely popular and often featuring long lines.
