The Ministry of Transportation and Communications’ Tourism Bureau, aiming to promote low-carbon tourism and enhance a friendly travel environment, joined forces with all 22 counties and cities in Taiwan to launch the “Taiwan’s Top 10 Happiness & Fun Travel Itineraries” selection activity. This program leverages diverse low-carbon transport options to link up mouthwatering, unique, joyful, and entertaining scenic spots and local foods — such as island-wide bus travel, ferry rides in Kaohsiung, electric vehicle trips in Penghu, bicycle journeys in Hualien, and hot air balloon adventures in Taitung. Througha professional judging panel including renowned travel writer Liu Kexiang, food critic Hu Tianlan, and long-time Japan-based author Aoki Yuka, after a three-month field inspection and scoring process (80%), combined with online voting that attracted over six million participants during May and June (20%),the event selected 10 “1-day and 2-day itineraries across Taiwan” that offer happiness and fun.Additionally, outstanding itineraries were recognized with four special jury awards based on evaluation criteria: the Marketing Excellence Award, Local Creativity Award, Friendly Service Award, and Diverse Transport Award.

Deputy Minister of the Ministry of Transportation and Communications Chen Chun-jing stated: “The design of these itineraries is intended to start from the traveler’s perspective, assisting county and city governments in using popular local attractions as hubs. By integrating diverse transportation methods with friendly tourism services, these itineraries connect a rich array of travel elements such as food, lodging, sightseeing, and shopping along the way. The goal is to produce representative and well-developed distinctive travel routes across Taiwan, offering a new low-carbon and relaxing alternative to self-drive travel. During waiting and transfer times, travelers can also gather friends to safely enjoy the local culture together.”
Director of the Ministry of Transportation and Communications’ Tourism Bureau Xie Weijun noted:“Through these 10 Happiness & Fun Travel Itineraries, we aim to promote the use of public transportation and encourage relaxed travel.”“At the same time, this stimulates consumption and brings the best tourism and economic benefits to all 22 counties and cities.”“It also provides domestic and international tourists visiting Taiwan with an additional option — to experience the beauty of Taiwan at a different pace.””
