A Deep Dive into Greater Taichung Communities: 8 Routes to Hidden Gems

The Community Deep Dive Tour is Here！ Starting October 24, the Taichung City Cultural Affairs Bureau is launching eight community-based in-depth travel routes to showcase the beauty of Greater Taichung. These include searching for bats in the Bat Cave at Toupienkeng, Taiping; soaking in the hot springs of Guguan while appreciating Atayal culture; and exploring eight hidden spots such as Dong’an Sanhua in Da’an. One-day trips start as low as NT$150, and a “Spend a Night in the Countryside” two-day tour is just NT$1,000.

The Cultural Affairs Bureau stated that the “Community Culture Deep Dive Tour” features eight major routes, including “Discovering Dong’an Sanhua” to admire wild ginger flowers, lotus blossoms, and scallions in Dajia’s Dong’an area; “The Batcave Revisited at Toupienkeng” to explore the bat cave and a seismic barrier lake; “Guguan Atayal Culture Deep Dive” to experience Guguan’s hot springs and Atayal tribal life; “Uncovering the Beauty of Hujiao Village”; and visiting magnificent Gothic-style architecture.

“Strolling Through Dali’s Backyard Garden” offers fruit-picking and vinegar-making experiences; “A Leisurely Tour of Dadu Mountain” lets you enjoy the scenic views of Dadu Mountain and dig for sweet potatoes; “Water and the Land of Hulushan” invites you to explore the historic Fengyuan Huludun Ancient City; and “Time-Traveling Southeastward” takes you on a heritage tour of the Chenghuang Community in the southern district.

The Cultural Affairs Bureau noted that these deep-dive tour routes were selected through an application process. Unlike typical tourist routes, they are led by locals who take visitors deep into the communities to discover unique local customs, cultural spots, and lesser-known stories—offering an authentic taste of local life. The eight routes will run for two months across 13 sessions, with 40 spots available per session, and are divided into one-day and two-day options.
