When visiting Luodong in Yilan, you definitely shouldn’t miss Luodong Night Market. Among its many stalls is an ultra-popular shaved ice shop that locals describe as “something we’ve eaten since childhood.” Loved by residents and a must-try spot for visitors alike, it’s said to sell over 1,000 bowls on a single summer day.

Tucked away in a lane within Luodong Night Market, you could easily miss this ultra-popular shaved ice shop if it weren’t for a local recommendation or guide. Despite having over 100 seats inside, there’s always a long line of eager customers waiting outside — a testament to the irresistible charm of their shaved ice.

The shaved ice specialty store has been in business for 38 years and is now managed by the second generation. The owner says, “We make our shaved ice fresh every day, using imported New Zealand milk powder, which gives it a richer and more fragrant taste.” It’s this simple recipe that has won the hearts of locals. Ms. Xu, a Yilan native, shares, “Everyone in Yilan knows about this shaved ice shop. It’s not just a childhood memory for us — even now, whenever we visit Luodong Night Market, we still have to get a bowl. It’s not just delicious, it’s emotionally connected to us locals.”

The smooth texture of the shaved ice melts in your mouth, instantly cooling you down on a hot day. The owner explains that achieving such a smooth texture requires precise ingredient ratios, resulting in a delicate melt-in-your-mouth feel with a slight bounce upon closer tasting. With ten flavors to choose from, the original milk and peanut flavors were created by the first-generation owners, while newer options include taro, strawberry, matcha, mango, chocolate, blueberry, and a unique peanut-sesame blend. Of course, if just shaved ice isn’t enough, there are plenty of toppings to customize your bowl — from silky-smooth pudding to crispy Oreo chocolate chips, all paired with the signature rich peanut shaved ice for a fun DIY experience.
