Haixia Eco-Tour: Experience the Beauty of the "Ends of the Earth"

The Axqyi Ancient Trail, known for its "breathtaking sea views," has become a popular tourist destination in recent years. However, few know that the trail starts in Haixia Village, located at the southeastern tip of Hengchun Peninsula in Mudan Township. Haixia Village has long been celebrated as the most beautiful "Ends of the Earth" and has recently been actively promoting eco-tourism. By combining traditional Amis fishing culture, visitors can take bamboo rafts and use cast nets to fish, offering an authentic tribal life experience.

Haixia, formerly known as Machalan, means "swamp." Since the Axqyi Ancient Trail was designated as a nature reserve, it has gained significant fame, also bringing attention to Haixia Village. In fact, more than half of the trail lies within the boundaries of Haixia Village, making it the tribe closest to the trail. With numerous cliffs and sea intersections nearby, it forms a true "Ends of the Earth," attracting more and more visitors to this sacred site.

Due to its coastal location, the Amis people traditionally row bamboo rafts to nearshore waters and use cast nets and crab/lobster traps to fish. Now, visitors can experience this firsthand. The Haixia community has launched the "Machalan Traditional Life Experience" eco-tour, which not only showcases the beautiful scenery of Haixia and the Axqyi Ancient Trail but also allows visitors to immerse themselves in rich Amis culture.

The Machalan Eco-Tour will be held on September 7 and 8 for a two-day, one-night immersive experience. It combines nearby attractions, including Haixia to Grassland, Haixia Hot Springs, and the Axqyi Ancient Trail. The tour includes guided services and shuttle bus transportation, with a fee of NT$3,000 per person.
