Taiwan Tobacco & Liquor Corporation launched the world’s first “wine-flavored” instant noodle — Tai Liquor Sesame Oil Chicken Noodles — in 2012, quickly gaining fame with its aromatic wine-infused seasoning pack. The following year, the release of Tai Liquor Shaoxing Chicken Noodles ignited a buying frenzy among Taiwanese consumers. According to statistics, sales surpassed 24 million bowls in 2017, averaging one bowl per person across Taiwan. If stacked by height, that amounts to nearly 10,000 Taipei 101 towers, or if laid end to end, could circle Taiwan four times.
According to the Liberty Times, Shaoxing Chicken Noodles were the public’s favorite, with 12 million bowls sold in 2017 alone — meaning one out of every two instant noodles sold was this flavor. It was voted the top choice by netizens in 2016 and hailed as one of the “best-tasting instant noodles.” Even foreigners couldn’t resist its charm, making it a hot item snapped up by international athletes during the Universiade, earning it the title of a new Taiwanese pride. The secret to its deliciousness lies in the traditionally brewed Shaoxing cooking wine, paired with a medicinal broth and a rich assortment of ingredients, delivering an authentic taste of classic Shaoxing chicken. It’s also considered a winter warmer to ward off the cold.
In addition to bestsellers like Sesame Oil Chicken Noodles, Shaoxing Chicken Noodles, Shaoxing Pickled Mustard Beef Noodles, and Shaoxing Dongpo Pork Noodles, Taiwan Tobacco & Liquor Corporation has also announced plans to launch another new flavor next year, promising a refreshing twist that consumers won’t want to miss.
