Taipei Beef Noodle Festival Kicks Off: A Culinary Showdown of Northern and Southern Masters & International Flavors

Beef noodles are also going "north vs. south" battle style！ The 2013 Taipei International Beef Noodle Festival has kicked off, launching the "Chefs' Championship" in September. This year marks the first time a preliminary round will be held in Tainan, and for the first time ever, chefs from 10 different countries have been invited to Taiwan to cook their own versions of international-style beef noodles. During the event period, the public can enjoy discounts at nearly 100 noodle shops across Taiwan by presenting a QR code. The organizers have also partnered with bus companies, allowing travelers holding bus ticket stubs to take advantage of buy-one-get-one-free deals at selected partner restaurants.

The Taipei Beef Noodle Festival has entered its ninth year. This year features a first-ever north-south culinary showdown, with the southern division preliminaries taking place on October 19 and 20, and the northern division on the same dates. The finalists will compete in three events at the “Grand Beef Noodle Carnival” held at Taipei Expo Park on November 9 and 10, vying for a total prize pool of NT$400,000 in the ultimate Chefs' Championship.

The Taipei City Department of Economic Development stated that this year also invites chefs from 10 countries including the United States, Australia, and Singapore to participate in the “International Chefs' Invitational,” allowing locals to savor international-style beef noodles without leaving the country. In addition to the Chefs' Championship and consumer perks, this year also features a special “Meeting Beef Noodles” essay competition, where the public can submit their heartfelt writings about this beloved local dish.
