The Daxueshan Forest Recreation Area reopens on the 16th — a great spot for moon viewing this Mid-Autumn Festival

It's back！The stunning Daxueshan National Forest Recreation Area reopens on the 16th. After being battered by three typhoons during the summer, many areas of the park were damaged. Following emergency repairs, the recreation area has now restarted operations. However, due to the collapse of the Forest Road at the 48.2 km mark which has not yet been restored, the picturesque "Heavenly Lake" with its mountain and lake views remains closed to the public.

The Dongshi Forest District Office stated that due to the typhoons, the Daxueshan Forest Road and trails were severely damaged but have now been repaired. Except for the Heavenly Lake and the Sacred Tree Trail, the entire area is now open. With the Mid-Autumn Festival approaching, Daxueshan Forest Recreation Area is a well-known stargazing spot in Taiwan due to its high elevation and minimal light pollution. Visitors are encouraged to take advantage of the reopening to enjoy moon viewing at this hidden gem, but barbecuing is strictly prohibited throughout the park to prevent forest fires.

Daxueshan Forest Recreation Area is located in Heping District, Taichung, situated in the rear section of the main ridge of the southwestern part of the Snow Mountains. The Daxueshan Forest Road is widely regarded as one of the most beautiful forest roads in Taiwan, offering stunning scenery all year round, especially in autumn when the mountains and valleys are ablaze with colorful foliage — a scene straight out of a painting. The Forest District Office says that now is the perfect time to visit with crisp autumn air, and welcomes everyone to come and experience it.
