Typhoon Approaching: Yellow Rubber Duck Activates Typhoon Response Mechanism Based on Weather Conditions, Deflates and Moved Ashore to Avoid Wind

The threat from Typhoon Usagi is gradually increasing, and the Central Weather Bureau does not rule out issuing a sea warning on the 19th. Since the 19th is also the day the Yellow Rubber Duck officially meets the public, the Kaohsiung City Government stated that it has worked with the exhibition team to develop typhoon prevention measures for the duck. Once a sea typhoon warning is issued, professionals will assess the actual weather and wind speed conditions to determine the appropriate timing to activate the typhoon response mechanism. Once activated, the duck and its floating platform will be hoisted ashore and deflated. Although the city government emphasizes that the Made-in-Taiwan Yellow Rubber Duck, in terms of both material and production technology, exceeds the requirements set by Florentijn Hofman and is capable of withstanding the climate and harbor tides, in the face of the threat posed by Typhoon Usagi, the city government team and the exhibition organizers have also developed typhoon prevention measures. These measures involve assessing the actual weather and wind speed conditions to decide when to activate the typhoon response mechanism. Once activated, the duck and its floating platform will be hoisted ashore and deflated, then secured onshore at Glory Pier and covered with canvas. After the sea typhoon warning is lifted, the duck’s exhibition will resume.

The Yellow Rubber Duck is scheduled to depart from Pier 2 at 4 p.m. on the 19th, Mid-Autumn Festival, and slowly make its way into Glory Pier under the tow of a tugboat. The exhibition will run until October 20. Considering the viewing angles for visitors, the harbor will not be closed during the exhibition period, and the duck will face the entrance of Glory Pier (at the Xintian intersection). Even at night, lighting facilities will be available, allowing visitors to take photos with the duck from various angles.
