Green Island’s First Duty-Free Shop – Selling Tobacco, Alcohol & Cosmetics, Up to 12 Purchases per Year

Green Island, with its blue seas and skies, now has a duty-free shop too！Green Island’s first duty-free store, “Pengfang Duty-Free Shop,” officially began operations in September. From now on, visitors to Green Island can not only swim and soak in hot springs but also enjoy duty-free shopping on par with international airports. The store offers items such as tobacco, alcohol, bags, and cosmetics, with a single purchase limit of NT$60,000 (limit of one pack of cigarettes and one bottle of alcohol per transaction), and up to 12 purchases per year.

Pengfang Company stated that the duty-free shop is located at the former Green Island Nanliao Fishing Port Visitor Center. The shopping process is the same as at international airports and ports—visitors can enjoy duty-free shopping by presenting their departure boat ticket and ID card or passport. The county government also pointed out that Green Island’s duty-free shop is on par with those at international airports, offering a full range of various internationally renowned brand products. Travelers can purchase the same items without going abroad and are encouraged to take advantage of weekend holidays to visit.

The county government stated that besides boosting public willingness to visit Green Island for tourism, over 80% of the store’s employees are hired from Taitung County residents, creating numerous job opportunities. The county government also receives a monthly royalty income of NT$650,000. The previously idle visitor center has been completely revitalized, achieving multiple benefits at once.

Pengfang Company’s duty-free shop operating license covers both Green Island and Orchid Island. Currently, the shop is first set up on Green Island, which sees 340,000 visitors daily, and after operations stabilize, consideration will be given to setting up a location on Orchid Island as well. The operator also mentioned that when Green Island’s visitor volume reaches 900,000, a second duty-free shop will be added.
