Even though it’s still hot outside, autumn clothing is already making appearances on the streets—don’t miss out on enjoying some refreshing summer ice treats while you can. If you’re in Toucheng, Yilan, how could you not visit Ah Jong Taro Ice? Their classic old-school bubble ice bursts with the deep flavors of its ingredients, offering a creamy texture with occasional grainy bits. Choose from six signature flavors: taro, red beans, pineapple, peanuts, longan, and black rice. Order online for home delivery and enjoy it at home too！



Ah Jong Taro Ice is just about 400 meters from Toucheng Railway Station, roughly a five-minute walk, so it’s not hard to find.



In the past, bubble ice used to be served from ice buckets like this one. They may look metal, but the inside layer is actually made of vacuum glass. The “bub-bub” sound was used to announce, “The ice seller is here!” — which is why it’s called bubble ice.



Every summer, especially on weekends, there’s always a long line, and since there aren’t many seats inside, it’s common to see crowds enjoying their ice on the building’s covered walkway.



There are six flavors in total, and for NT$30, you can pick any three flavors in a cup. Compared to ice cream, bubble ice isn’t as brightly colored; it has more natural, muted tones from its ingredients, and the texture is denser and stickier.



My favorite is the taro flavor. Rather than just being sweet, it’s more about the aroma—and when you bite into taro chunks in that rich mixture, it’s truly a delightful surprise.



After you finish, there’s a recycling spot outside—what a smart design！Just drop your cup through the hole and it stacks up. This not only saves space in the trash bin but also keeps the area looking cleaner, without cups spilling over or littering the ground. Of course, it does require everyone’s cooperation—just a small effort, not a hassle at all！
