Pork Duck with Sugarcane Aroma and Cherries Featured in Taiwan Railways’ Yilan-Style Lunch Box Now on Sale

Taiwan Railways has introduced a new flavor to its “Local Lunch Boxes”! For the first time, it features Yilan’s famous dish, pork duck with sugarcane aroma and cherries, paired with grilled mackerel from Su’ao, launching a new Yilan-style lunch box. Starting from noon on October 7, it will be available in limited quantities at Shulin, Songshan, Xizhi, and Qidu stations, priced at NT$100 per box. However, despite being called a Yilan-style lunch box, it is not available at Yilan Station.

Taiwan Railways stated that following the previously released limited-edition “Alishan Specialty Lunch Box” and “Hokkaido Specialty Lunch Box,” it has carefully selected agricultural and seafood specialties from the Lanyang Plain to create this new lunch box. In addition to the star dish, the pork duck with sugarcane aroma and cherries, it also includes grilled mackerel from Su’ao, deep-fried taro balls from Yilan, pan-fried radish and egg with Sanxing scallions, hot spring bamboo shoots, and honey-glazed kumquats from Jiaoxi, all showcasing local Yilan flavors.

Starting this year, Taiwan Railways has broken away from its traditional focus on pork rib-based lunch boxes and has planned to launch five limited-edition local lunch boxes throughout the year across northern, central, southern, and eastern Taiwan. In March, it collaborated for the first time with the renowned Hokkaido lunch box shop “Kenshoan” to launch the Hokkaido Salmon Flavor Lunch Box. In May, it introduced the Alishan Specialty Lunch Box, which received high praise and sold out instantly during lunchtime hours.

Taiwan Railways noted that the Yilan-style lunch box will be available in limited quantities of 100 per day at Shulin, Songshan, Xizhi, and Qidu railway stations. The other two new lunch boxes to be launched this year will focus on local flavors from Hualien and Taichung, scheduled to debut in October and November. The main dishes for these boxes remain top secret.
