Taiwan is one of the top travel destinations for many international backpackers, and most opt to stay in youth hostels during their trip. These hostels are affordable, with daily rates as low as NT$500. There are over 4,500 youth hostels worldwide, with nearly 40 in Taiwan. These include activity centers run by the National Youth Corps, high-quality hotels, and small-scale guesthouses—all part of the youth hostel network. There are no age or gender restrictions

Foreign travelers staying at youth hostels in Taiwan believe that since most hostels are located in urban areas, staying here is the best way to experience authentic Taiwanese grassroots culture and interact with locals. It’s even convenient for learning Mandarin or Taiwanese. Another feature of youth hostels is their spacious common areas, where guests can socialize with travelers from around the world in the lounge, kitchen, or even the laundry room.

The Republic of China International Youth Hostel Association points out that whether it’s a domestic or international youth hostel, the public can simply book online or by phone. If travelers have special needs or wish to share a room with a partner or friend, they can apply in advance. Otherwise, they can enjoy the unique experience of staying with backpackers from abroad.
