This brunch spot located in a quiet residential alley has only been open for just over ten days, yet it’s already bustling with customers during breakfast hours. Offering a variety of “signature dishes” such as the Slippers Burger and Royal Platter, these creations stem from the owner’s experience and creative vision, making your day extraordinary starting with breakfast.

Nestled within a tranquil alley, “Plump Café” occupies a spacious storefront. Owner Chen Zhen-tai worked as a chef in hotels for many years before venturing out on his own to develop a signature menu. He said, “Originally, I just wanted to bring the delicious flavors from hotels to customers—something they could enjoy anytime—taking grand dishes and making them more accessible.” Chen may say this, but what he actually offers is more generous portions than those found in hotels, and the ingredients are nothing short of lavish. Some are imported from overseas, while seafood is delivered directly from the source—for example, scallops are of sashimi-grade quality. When asked why, Chen simply replied, “I never really thought about it, I just felt it should be this way.” Perhaps it’s this straightforward belief in cooking that helped the café build a solid reputation in less than two weeks.

Among the featured breakfast sets, the most popular is the “Philly Cheesesteak Sandwich.” Instead of using hamburger meat, the beef is imported from Australia, paired with cheese and onions. The sandwich is served on specially made French bread that stands an impressive 16 centimeters tall. Chen Zhen-tai explained that this size ensures it can hold more filling, making it hearty enough for even male customers.

Additionally, the “Slippers Burger” series draws inspiration from Japanese cuisine concepts, incorporating ingredients like smoked salmon and unagi teriyaki. Among them, the “Salt-Grilled Pork Belly Slippers Burger” is the most ordered item. The addition of seven-spice powder enhances the overall aroma of the meat and gives it a bolder flavor. The pork has a Q-texture that’s chewy yet delicate, almost like minced meat. Accents of mushrooms prevent the whole dish from being too heavy. First-time customer Ms. Huang commented, “After the pork, you can also enjoy the veggies—it’s really tasty, fragrant, and super filling.”

Breakfast is the start of the day and the most important meal. Chen Zhen-tai designed the space to be simple and comfortable. He said, “I just want to serve meals that don’t put pressure on my guests.” As a result, a rustic atmosphere permeates both the café and the dishes.
