Taoyuan Land Art Festival Welcomes Millions; Yellow Duck Implements Dyke Access Control

The Taoyuan Land Art Festival, opening on the 26th, will showcase three international artworks including Florentijn Hofman’s “Yellow Duck” and five creations by domestic artists and residents, generating buzz even before its opening. The county government estimates over one million visitors will attend. Due to the limited space around Houhu Pond, where the Yellow Duck will reside, authorities will implement “dyke access control” after the launch to manage hourly visitor flow and prevent overcrowding.

As the opening date approaches, the Taoyuan County Government has been actively preparing the exhibition site and surrounding areas. Roads nearby have been regraded and paved, while green railings have been installed around the ponds to ensure visitor safety. The county government stated that the main exhibition area featuring the “Yellow Duck,” due to the limited space of the pond, can accommodate approximately 3,000 to 4,000 people per hour. After the launch, the dyke pathway will enforce “dyke access control” at five designated entrances, regulating entry based on crowd levels to ensure visitor safety and protect the ecological environment.

The Taoyuan County Government also noted that unlike the Yellow Duck in Kaohsiung, for safety and pond ecological reasons, the “Taoyuan Duck” will only extend its viewing hours until 8:30 p.m. on the closing day, November 10. During other exhibition periods, it will close at 5:00 p.m. Lifeguard stations will be set up near the pond, and patrol boats will be deployed to prevent drowning incidents.

After the festival opens, traffic controls will also be enforced on roads around Houhu Pond, where the Yellow Duck resides, and around Xinwu Pond, where Yayoi Kusama’s artwork “Footprints of Life” is exhibited. All vehicles, including bicycles, will be prohibited from entering. During the event, Taoyuan Bus Route 5033, which normally passes by Houhu Pond, will be rerouted and will not enter the exhibition area. Visitors are advised to use the four free shuttle bus routes planned by the county government.
