“Angel’s Tears, don’t let it be tainted by dust!” A few days ago, hundreds of people climbed up to Lake Jioming, and it was reported that a hiker tried to jump in and swim, leading to an argument with others who tried to stop him. He has since apologized for his actions.
A few days ago, 300 to 400 hikers climbed up to Lake Jioming. Zhu, a hiker from Kaohsiung, was visiting the lake for the first time and was captivated by its beauty. Ignoring the icy water temperature, he couldn’t resist the urge to swim in the lake. Other hikers were shocked and tried to dissuade him, which led to an argument. After descending the mountain, someone reported the incident to the Xiangyang Police Station. After being directly admonished by the police, Zhu apologized for his inappropriate behavior and the argument with those who tried to stop him.
Some hikers left comments on Facebook saying, “That’s outrageous—go swimming at the beach or Sun Moon Lake if you want to swim.” Others said, “The beauty of Lake Jioming should be appreciated with the eyes, not by leaving trash behind.” Some hikers suggested installing surveillance cameras on the mountain—if anyone is caught swimming, the entire group should be fined, with each person penalized NT$10,000.
The Taitung Forest District Office of the Forestry Bureau and Xiangyang Police Station Chief Zhang Nengwei called on hikers to respect and protect nature. Lake Jioming is the only water source for nearby wildlife and hikers. The lake water is extremely cold and reaches a depth of 7 meters. There have been cases where hikers who rashly entered the water suffered from hypothermia, shock, or even drowning. Everyone should respect, protect, and cherish nature, and swimming or playing in the water is strictly prohibited. (Source: Central News Agency)
