Enjoy Persimmons in the Crisp Autumn Air: The Snow Mountain Persimmon Festival Kicks Off Sweetly

Autumn is the peak season for sweet persimmons, and the Snow Mountain Persimmon Festival in Sian Township, Miaoli, kicks off on the 19th. Visitors can personally taste persimmons with an average sweetness level of up to 12 degrees. The event also features DIY persimmon jam workshops, a farmers' market, traditional Atayal song and dance performances, and plum garden village painting activities. After enjoying the persimmons, you can also soak in the nearby Tai'an Hot Springs or take a stroll in Shei-Pa National Park.

The Tai'an Snow Mountain Persimmon Festival will be held on the 19th and 20th at Shilin Dam Plaza and the Shei-Pa National Park Administration Office, respectively. The Sian Township Office stated that Snow Mountain persimmons have a crisp texture and an average sweetness level of 12 degrees, “even monkeys often come to steal them.” Despite being hit by typhoons and droughts, the persimmons remain hanging on the branches, with their sweetness and crispness definitely standing the test.

The persimmon planting area in Sian Township covers 145 hectares, with persimmon trees growing at altitudes above 1,000 meters, mainly of the Fuyu variety. The annual production is about 1,450 metric tons, concentrated in the Xiangbi, Shilin, and Meiyuan mountainous areas. The township office said that in addition to enjoying fresh, sweet persimmons at the event, visitors can also enjoy performances by local Atayal tribes and visit the farmers' market. As the weather gets colder, tourists can also soak in the nearby Tai'an Hot Springs.
