Taiwan High-Speed Rail Exclusive Discount Up to 32% Off via "Orange Travel Voucher" – Explore Taiwan with HowToTrip

Everything’s going up except our salaries. Starting August 8th, Taiwan High-Speed Rail raised its fares despite public opposition, with increases of up to 9.6%. To help travelers save money and boost tourism, the Tourism Bureau of Taiwan collaborated with Taiwan High-Speed Rail to launch the “HowToTrip – Orange Travel Voucher.” Not only are fares not increased, but you also get a 25% discount — that’s 32% off compared to buying high-speed rail tickets separately. The first 500 voucher sets even come with a “HowToTrip Membership Card” loaded with NT$100, allowing everyone to explore Taiwan for less.

Taiwan High-Speed Rail announced that fares would officially increase starting August 8th, causing widespread complaints among passengers. To avoid losing customers, in addition to expanding early bird discounts and introducing special offers for targeted passenger groups, Taiwan High-Speed Rail has partnered with the Tourism Bureau to launch the “HowToTrip – Orange Travel Voucher,” which offers even better prices than before the fare hike. For example, on the Taipei–Kaohsiung route, using the Orange Travel Voucher for a round-trip high-speed rail ride saves you NT$1,030, bringing the cost down to just NT$2,230 (the original Taipei–Kaohsiung round-trip fare was NT$2,980, and after the hike, it became NT$3,260). Based on current pricing, that’s nearly a 32% discount, though it requires the departure and return stations to be the same.

In addition, the Tourism Bureau stated that the “Orange Travel Voucher” also includes a “Green Travel Voucher,” which allows you to choose any of 20 HowToTrip routes, as well as a one-day pass for either Taipei Metro or Kaohsiung MRT. The first 500 voucher sets also come with an extra bonus: a “HowToTrip Membership Card” preloaded with NT$100, making it convenient to transfer between various bus lines and handle all kinds of transportation needs during your trip.
