Top 10 Scenic Landscapes of Taiwan Voted on – Yehliu Ranked No. 1, Guishan Island No. 5

Yehliu is "superb" ! The Forestry Bureau has announced the results of Taiwan’s Top 10 Scenic Landscapes vote. New Taipei City’s Yehliu, bolstered by the iconic “Queen’s Head” erosional landform, received 3,145 online votes, standing out among 91 unique landscapes across Taiwan to claim first place. The top five are, in order: Yushan Main Peak, Sun Moon Lake, Jinguashi, and Guishan Island.

The vote for the Top 10 Scenic Landscapes ran for two months. Scholars and experts first selected 91 special landscapes for public online voting, which attracted a total of 220,000 voters. A team of geography experts then scored the entries to determine the final rankings. The Queen’s Head was favored for its rare mushroom-shaped rock formation, while sixth to tenth places went to the Devil’s Slide Mudstone Badlands, Snow Mountain Cirque, Qingshui Cliffs, Sanyi Flame Mountains in Miaoli, and the Greater and Lesser Bauco Peaks.

The Forestry Bureau noted that other landscapes initially on the online voting list included Taoyuan Algal Reefs, Keelung’s Badouzi, and Beitou Geothermal Valley, but they did not advance after the expert scoring phase. Lin Chun-chuan, convener of the voting project, pointed out that Taiwan has many unique landscapes, all of them beautiful, yet they need more public attention and protection. For instance, the Queen’s Head in Yehliu faces risks of collapse due to visitor damage and weathering.
