Yellow Rubber Duck Floats into Taoyuan – Xinwu Residents Kindly Remind: Don’t Litter

Taoyuan’s Yellow Rubber Duck was finally fully inflated on the morning of the 24th, confirming its display at the Land Art Festival on the 26th. It is estimated that hundreds of thousands, or even millions, of visitors will flock to Xinwu Township, which has rarely hosted such a large-scale event. The duck’s joyful and bustling presence has the community both excited and wary. A local resident, Ms. Huang, has taken to Facebook to compile and share the best routes for duck viewing, along with a thoughtful reminder about a speed camera on one section of the road. She also hopes visitors won’t litter, as it makes the hard work of environmental volunteers even more difficult.

Ms. Huang said that for those unfamiliar with Xinwu, she offers the following suggested route for reference:

1.Entering Xinwu: Giant Lotus & Giant Ladybug

Friends coming from Zhongli or northern Taiwan can take Provincial Highway or Freeway 66, as the first exhibition site is a large pond on the left side of Freeway 66, featuring a giant lotus. Then continue driving toward Xinwu for about 5-10 minutes.Don’t exceed 60 km/h – watch out for speed cameras.You’ll see a traffic light intersection with a CPC gas station; please turn left. When you spot the Xinwu Taoyuan Hospital, you’ve arrived at the second exhibition site – the giant ladybug.

2.Other Exhibitions & the Yellow Rubber Duck

Then continue straight ahead; you’ll pass a traffic light intersection with a gas station on the left, then keep going. When you see a FamilyMart, it’s a good idea to start looking for parking. Then enter from the small road opposite FamilyMart. Along the way, there will be local residents selling Yellow Rubber Duck merchandise. About 500 meters in, you’ll start seeing stalls, and there will be various exhibits along the route, until you finally see the huge Yellow Rubber Duck.

Thoughtful Reminders

1. Remember to bring a jacket, as it gets very windy, and style your hair well to avoid unflattering photos.
2. Also... please wear comfortable shoes.
3. Parents with children, please stay safe – there are no guardrails, and though there are reportedly plans for controls, they haven’t been officially announced yet.
4. Lastly........... please remember not to “litter,” as my mother-in-law is a community environmental volunteer. If you litter, it makes their job much harder.
