One of Taiwan’s coffee bean producing regions, Sandimen Township in Pingtung County, will hold the “Taste the Original Flavor” series of events on October 28. In addition to sampling the area’s signature Davin coffee, there will be activities such as raw coffee bean evaluation workshops and hands-on roasted coffee experiences. Sandimen is home to the Paiwan people, so visitors can also learn more about and connect with Paiwan culture while enjoying their coffee.

The 2013 “Taste the Original Flavor” series of events will take place on the 28th and from November 2 to 3. The activities include the “Taste the Original Flavor” press conference and local specialty promotion, Pingtung Indigenous Coffee Evaluation (green beans), hands-on roasted coffee experience, red quinoa and coffee gourmet creative cooking competition, tribal singer/band singing contest, and featured industry promotion activities—six events in total. The first event kicks off on the 28th, while the others will begin in November.

Davin black coffee stands alongside blackfin tuna and black pearls, earning the reputation of being one of “Pingtung’s Three Blacks.” Davin coffee beans are grown at altitudes of 700–800 meters above sea level in Davin fields. They were once the coffee of choice for the Japanese emperor during the colonial period and have even won a silver medal at the world level.
