Pingxi and Enoshima One-Day Pass Exchange is a Hit!

Do you remember the “Pingxi and Enoshima Free One-Day Pass Exchange” campaign launched in May this year through a collaboration between Taiwan Railways and Japan’s Enoshima Electric Railway? Due to its overwhelming popularity over the past six months, TRA has recently set up “Joint Pingxi Line and Enoshima Electric Railway Tourism Exhibition Areas” at Ruifang and Taipei Stations. Through promotional videos and text, they are expanding awareness of the Taiwan-Japan railway cooperation achievements. Enoshima Electric Railway has also introduced a “One-Day Pass and Admission Ticket Four-Stations Four-Colors Limited Edition Set” for railway enthusiasts to collect.

Starting from May 1st this year, a collaborative initiative between Taiwan Railways and Japan’s Enoshima Electric Railway in Kanagawa Prefecture — the “Pingxi and Enoshima Free One-Day Pass Exchange” campaign — allows passengers who purchase a Pingxi One-Day Pass during the campaign period to exchange it for a free Enoshima Electric Railway one-day pass at any Enoshima station in Japan, and vice versa. After nearly six months of implementation, the campaign has been highly praised. TRA estimates that by the end of September, nearly 1,500 travelers had exchanged one-day passes at stations in both Taiwan and Japan, with the number of exchanges exceeding expectations by more than threefold.

To showcase more of the beauty of the Pingxi Line and Enoshima Electric Railway, both sides have jointly establishedthe “Pingxi Line and Enoshima Electric Railway Tourism Photo Submission Campaign”website. From the 16th until December 2nd, by collecting photos of the scenery along both railways, the site provides more information on nearby attractions and cultural features along the routes. Participants in the submission campaign also have the chance to win a “2-Night Stay at a High-End Japanese Hotel and an Enoshima One-Day Pass.”

Meanwhile, Japan’s Enoshima Electric Railway (commonly referred to as Enoden), located in Kanagawa Prefecture, has launched a “One-Day Pass and Admission Ticket Four-Stations Four-Colors Limited Edition Set” featuring designs of Taiwan Railways’ Pingxi Line trains to reward railway fans. In addition to having Pingxi scenery printed on the Enoshima one-day pass, the set is divided into four limited-color editions for the Kamakura, Hakone, Enoshima, and Fujisawa stations. Each set also includes one admission ticket for the respective station and one Pingxi admission ticket, with each featuring entirely different scenic imagery.

The one-day pass remains valid until March 31, 2014 (Year 103 in the Republic of China calendar). The “Enoshima Limited Edition Set” is priced at 770 yen per set. Railway enthusiasts who love collecting tickets and are traveling along the Enoshima Line should not miss the chance to collect these limited-edition tickets at these four stations!
