Northeast Corner Caoling Ancient Trail Miscanthus Season Kicks Off on November 16

As autumn winds blow and miscanthus flowers dance, the silver miscanthus blankets Yilan’s Caoling Ancient Trail, heralding the arrival of the annual miscanthus season. The “Caoling Ancient Trail Miscanthus Season” has entered its twelfth year. This year, the Northeast Coast & Yilan Coast National Scenic Area Administration, under the Tourism Bureau of the Ministry of Transportation and Communications, has chosen “Dancing Winds, Flying Miscanthus” as the theme. From November 16 to December 1, various activities including cosplay creativity and traditional tea-serving by “waiters” will be held on weekends.

To facilitate miscanthus viewing, the Northeast Coast & Yilan Coast Scenic Area Administration has coordinated with bus operators to add shuttle buses during weekends (November 16, 17, 23, 24, 30, and December 1). Buses run from 8:00 AM to 3:30 PM, with one departing approximately every 15 minutes from Fulong Visitor Center to Yuwangkeng Water Park (at the intersection of Provincial Highway 2B), at a fare of NT$15 (EasyCard accepted). From 11:30 AM to 4:00 PM, buses run approximately every 30 minutes from Dali Visitor Center to Fulong Visitor Center, at a fare of NT$49 (EasyCard accepted). Both routes operate on a first-come, first-served basis. Visitors are encouraged to use public transport to avoid traffic congestion during weekends.

The “Taiwan Tourist Shuttle – Golden Fulong Line” will also adjust its route during the miscanthus season on weekends (November 16, 17, 23, 24, 30, and December 1) to pass by Yuwangkeng Water Park (at the intersection of Provincial Highway 2B). Nearby attractions such as Lingjiushan, which offers miscanthus viewing, provide dedicated shuttle services for easy access. In addition to bus shuttles, Taiwan Railways has increased train frequency and stops to accommodate visitors—welcome to make use of these options.

This year’s miscanthus season is different from previous years. A special call-out has been issued: on event weekends, visitors who dress up with an “ancient vibe” theme, take photos in the themed photo area, and check in on the “Friends of the Northeast Coast FB” page can join the on-site lucky draw. A variety of limited-edition prizes await creative winners, including a double-room stay certificate at Morrena Bay Resort, a Nikon digital camera, and the “Taiwan Tourist Shuttle – Golden Fulong Line” ticket package.

The miscanthus season event also integrates local attractions in the Northeast Corner, offering discounts and special deals. Visitors can enjoy benefits by presenting the miscanthus season flyer. The organizers have introduced a Golden Fulong Line ticket package: after hiking the Caoling Ancient Trail, head to Jiufen for classic Taiwanese afternoon tea.
