Taiwan Cycling Festival: Female Rider Wei Huaxuan Leads the “Ultimate Cycling Tour Around Taiwan”

Do you still remember the inspiration brought by the movie “Island Etude”? Do you recall the exhilarating feeling of speed when you first pedaled a bicycle? To promote cycling leisure activities and market Taiwan’s cycling tourism internationally, this year the Tourism Bureau of the Ministry of Transportation and Communications has expanded the “2013 Taiwan Cycling Festival.” In addition to the three main events to be held from November 9 to 17 — the “Taiwan Cycling King Challenge,” “Ride Across Formosa 900,” and “Sun Moon Lake Come! Bikeday” — there will also be a series of cycling activities across Taiwan, including cycling carnivals, cycling cosplay, family leisure tours, and low-carbon travel combining buses and bicycles. There are also many lucky draw promotions, inviting the public to join the events, explore the country’s cycling paths, and enjoy the beautiful scenery of Taiwan.

This year, a warm-up event for the Cycling Festival — the 4-day, 3-night “Ultimate Cycling Tour Around Taiwan” itinerary planning competition — was also held. The public was invited to design itineraries centered around cycling, using various modes of transportation such as high-speed rail, Taiwan Railways, Taiwan Tourist Shuttle, MRT, and more, to connect Taiwan’s four extreme-point lighthouses and visit the pearl highlights of Eastern and Central Taiwan. The plan also utilizes local cycling stations to meet the basic needs of a round-the-island trip, creating an interesting itinerary.

The event also invited “Cycling Expert – Little Monkey Wei Huaxuan” to serve as the event ambassador, leading the winners on an actual 4-day, 3-night action-packed journey. The trip uses public transportation for transfers, adopting a “bicycle + public transportation” approach to create a convenient and relaxing “new concept cycling tour around Taiwan,” hoping to help more people realize their dream of cycling around the island.
