On November 5th U.S. time, after an eight-month budget standoff, the White House finally reopened to visitors yesterday. Surprisingly, U.S. President Obama, along with First Lady Michelle and their beloved dogs "Bo" and "Sunny," personally welcomed guests in the Blue Room on the first day of reopening.
Since October 1st this year, due to the U.S. Congress's inability to pass the budget bill, nearly all federally managed tourist attractions were forced to close. Some state governments even had to dig into their own pockets just to avoid losing significant tourism revenue.
After negotiations and a vote in Congress, the deadlock was finally broken, and the U.S. government resumed operations. On yesterday (the 5th), the first day of the White House reopening attracted a large number of visitors. Obama and Michelle even brought their dogs to the Blue Room to shake hands, chat, and hug with tourists, leaving them pleasantly surprised, with expressions of delight written all over their faces.
However, the National Park Service, which manages White House tours, also stated that the number of visitable days has been reduced from five days a week to three days after reopening, and visitors must book at least two months in advance to gain entry.
