▲ In the future, there will be no need to print paper boarding passes — your phone will be enough.

Cathay Pacific and Dragonair have announced that in the future, passengers who complete online check-in and receive a text message or email can click the link to retrieve their mobile boarding pass. Then, by selecting “Add to Passbook,” they can store the mobile boarding pass in Passbook. Passbook allows iPhone and iPod touch users to store airline boarding passes, movie tickets, gift cards, and more on their handheld devices. Passengers don’t need to use any other mobile apps to store Cathay Pacific or Dragonair boarding passes in Passbook. Even in offline mode, the mobile boarding pass remains accessible — very convenient.

In addition to boarding, the mobile boarding pass in Passbook also provides timely reminders. When passengers arrive near the airport and as departure time approaches, the boarding pass will appear on the device’s lock screen as a reminder. Simply tap the notification to bring up the boarding pass from the home screen, saving the hassle of searching for text messages or emails. Passengers can scan the mobile boarding pass at airport immigration counters, security checkpoints, and boarding gates.
