Not to be outshone by the Xinshe Flower Sea, the first major flower-viewing event in southern Taiwan, Kaohsiung’s Qiaotou Flower Sea kicked off on November 23 at Qiaotou Bamboo Forest Park. The two-day “A Floral Celebration” event invites the public to admire a colorful sea of flowers spanning 42 hectares, featuring vibrant blooms such as cosmos, sunflowers, and zinnias. The event also includes flower-themed concerts and street performances.

Held for seven consecutive years, the Qiaotou Flower Sea attracted 600,000 visitors last year. This year, in addition to the expansive 42-hectare flower display area, a special 1,200-meter-long sunflower sea has been planted along the Rainbow Bridge to Qiaoxin 6th Road in Qiaotou District as part of the Qiaotou New Town development plan—truly a “Rainbow Sunflower Welcome Boulevard.” Visitors entering Qiaotou can enjoy the stunning sight of blooming flowers greeting them.

The Qiaotou District Office noted that the best time to view the flowers is from November 23 to December 8. On November 23 and 24, the “A Floral Celebration” event and the “Straw Installation Art” exhibition will be held. Visitors can experience traditional ox-cart farming for free, participate in game challenges for prizes, enjoy live music and street performances, and local temples will offer nearly 1,000 kilograms of vegetarian rice balls for free tasting.

In conjunction with the Qiaotou Flower Sea, the district office will also provide free shuttle buses to flower-viewing visitors at Qiaotou Railway Station until December 8. Additionally, about 20 restaurants are offering special promotions during the flower sea period. Visitors to Qiaotou Sugar Refinery can also enjoy discounted rides on the Taiwan Sugar Railroad by presenting a flyer stub.
