TransAsia Airways has recently received official notification from the Civil Aeronautics Administration (CAA), granting approval to establish Taiwan’s first low-cost airline. On November 20, the airline held a press conference to announce the news and unveiled the “Taiwan’s First Low-Cost Airline – Name It Yourself” campaign, offering the winner of the naming contest the reward of 10 years of free flights.

At the press conference, TransAsia Airways Chairman Lin Ming-wei stated that low-cost carriers have become a global trend. Currently, there are 10–12 low-cost airlines in Taiwan, but none are locally based; travelers can only book tickets through agency travel services, which is quite inconvenient.
As Taiwan’s first low-cost airline, the company will be 100% owned and operated by the TransAsia Airways Group, and will be fully designed based on the consumption habits of the Taiwanese market, striving to become a low-cost airline built entirely for Taiwan.
Lin Ming-wei said that the low-cost airline will primarily operate new A320 and A321 aircraft, with Taiwan Taoyuan International Airport as its base, offering routes within a 5-hour flight radius of Taiwan. It will not affect TransAsia’s existing operational markets and is expected to be ready to serve consumers after one year of preparation. Lin also noted that within this year, the company will carefully evaluate suitable destinations and ticket prices for the Taiwanese market.
Emphasizing that air service should be built on public opinion, TransAsia Airways has also launched the “Taiwan’s First Low-Cost Airline – Name It Yourself” campaign. From November 21 to December 20, the public can submit name suggestions for the new low-cost airline. The officially selected winner will enjoy the exclusive reward of unlimited, all-cabin-class free flights on the airline for 10 years.
