Last updated 2026-09-25 — This “Grandma’s Oden” at the Taipei Metro Sun Yat-sen Memorial Station is said to have started as the first street food stall in the eastern district. Its protagonist, Grandma Chen, pushed her street cart for 20 years before finally opening this storefront. Thanks to its “Mom’s flavor,” even after settling into the alleys of Guangfu South Road, it still attracts many loyal customers and is loved by nearby office workers.

This “Grandma’s Oden” at the Taipei Metro Sun Yat-sen Memorial Station is said to have started as the first street food stall in the eastern district, originally set up next to the railway of the arms factory. Grandma Chen pushed her street stall for 20 years before getting this storefront.Because of its “Mom’s flavor,” even after moving into the alleys of Guangfu South Road, it still has many returning customers and is favored by nearby office workers.

The current owner, who took over Grandma Chen’s business, said: “We continue using the ingredients that Grandma used — pork bones, vegetables, dried bonito, and more. To make the broth, we first boil it over high heat for about 100 minutes, then simmer it over low heat for as long as 24 hours. The oden is specially ordered from a craftsman, and the fish used are carefully selected.” When it comes to the secret to the delicious taste, the owner is reluctant to say much, but he insists that customers can tell how good it is just by tasting it.Long-time customer Ms. Zhang said: “The oden is soft yet chewy, and the sweetness of the fish paste spreads in your mouth with every bite. The meatballs have a unique savory flavor, and the clear soup is refreshing with a strong aroma of vegetables and radish!”
