Snow Mountain National Park to Implement Porters' Accommodation Zone Starting December

Trekking across mountains and conquering high peaks is a goal many hikers aspire to, but it is also an extremely risky challenge. To reduce accidents, the role of "porters"—those who help carry gear, cook meals, and are familiar with local mountain conditions—has emerged. To safeguard the rights of these hardworking individuals who assist hikers in reaching summits, the management office of Snow Mountain National Park will designate a “Porters' Accommodation Zone” in two of its mountain lodges starting December 1, allowing them to rest properly after their demanding work.

The Snow Mountain Administration Office stated that Snow Mountain National Park is one of the most popular hiking destinations in Taiwan. However, hikers often fail to provide porter information when applying for park entry permits, resulting in porters not being assigned beds in the lodges and having to spend nights on lodge hallways or camping outdoors.

Therefore, the office has designated beds 151 to 156 in "Qika Lodge" and beds 127 to 132 in "369 Lodge" as porter-only bed zones. When entering the Snow Mountain trailhead, porters will be issued bed numbers in the order they arrive by staff at the mountaineering service station. The hiker group hiring the porter will also have the assigned bed number noted and stamped on their entry permit for record-keeping, until all allocated beds are full. Beds normally available to the general public remain unaffected.
