The first ray of dawn in 2014 lights up the sky — Here’s where to catch the earliest sunrise across Taiwan

After a night of celebration, sit back with a few friends and watch the dawn break as the first light of morning slowly rises in the east, gradually calming the excitement of the midnight festivities. ETtoday ETToday Travel Cloud has compiled a list of the best spots to witness the first ray of dawn in 2014 and the top five earliest sunrise locations across Taiwan, inviting readers to greet the new year’s morning light together in the cold winter.

Before welcoming 2014, why not take in the final sunset of this year (2013)? According to observations by the Central Weather Bureau's Astronomical Observatory,the latest sunset of 2013 will occur at 5:25 PM on December 31st in Anping, Tainan; Qijin, Kaohsiung; and Guanxi, Pingtung..

After an exciting New Year’s Eve party and fireworks show, if you’re still basking in the joy of welcoming the new year, take a short rest and head to a sunrise spot to watch the fiery sun rise slowly. The observatory noted that Taiwan’s first ray of dawn in the new year will appearat 6:33 AM on Orchid Island, an outlying island.If traveling there isn’t feasible,the first ray of dawn on the main island can be seen at 6:35 AM at Sanciantai in Taitung and Eluanbi in Pingtung.It can be viewed from two locations.

The observatory also listed the top five earliest sunrise spots across Taiwan, including both the main island and outlying islands. Starting at 6:33 AM on Orchid Island, followed by Green Island at 6:34 AM, then Sanciantai in Taitung and Eluanbi in Pingtung at 6:35 AM; Fugang and Taimali in Taitung at 6:36 AM, and finallyat 6:37 AM at Sandiao Cape in New Taipei, Su’ao in Yilan, and Chongde in Hualien.It can be enjoyed in three places.
