60 classic Japanese cars showcase their enduring charm as a 28-day island-wide rally kicks off

The renowned Japanese classic car event organizer “RALLY NIPPON” will launch the “RALLY NIPPON Gratitude Taiwan” classic car rally starting tomorrow (28th), with 60 vintage cars averaging over 60 years of age having already arrived in Taiwan. At a press conference held in front of the Ministry of Transportation and Communications yesterday (26th), Tourism Bureau Director-General Xie Weijun presented symbolic safety amulets, wishing all participating vehicles a safe journey throughout the event.

“RALLY NIPPON,” the only domestic classic car event organizer officially recognized by the Japan Tourism Agency, has decided to hold its annual classic car rally in Taiwan this year as a gesture of gratitude for Taiwan’s generous support following the 311 Great East Japan Earthquake. The impressive convoy of 60 classic sports cars, all manufactured before 1974 and collectively valued at over 1 billion Japanese yen, arrived in Taiwan yesterday.

The most eye-catching entry in this competition is a 1926 BENTLEY SPEED MODEL VANDEN PLAS FOUR SEATER TOURER, which is an impressive 87 years old and the oldest vehicle in the event. Among the other 60 vintage cars participating, nine are over 70 years old, including five that are more than 80 years old. These “grandfather-grade” antique cars will all showcase their enduring charm and performance during the race.

Additionally, to maintain the quality of life and traffic safety for residents along the route, “RALLY NIPPON” will not disclose the detailed itinerary, but will only announce the major stopover locations.
