A giant crystal ball appears in London’s square to protect the love god for Christmas

London, United KingdomPiccadilly Circushas recently featured a “giant crystal ball,” and upon closer inspection, the centerpiece inside is the city’s landmark — the “Eros statue,” stunning many passersby.

With colorful lights and falling snowflakes, the Eros inside the crystal ball looks truly enchanting. The Westminster Council, which built the crystal ball, said that besides creating a festive Christmas atmosphere, the most important goal was to properly protect this century-old statue from potential vandalism during the holiday season.

The Eros statue was built in 1892. In 1937, the statue’s bow was damaged by thieves, and in 2011, the arrow was broken due to the reckless behavior of football fans. As a result, every year before major holidays, the Westminster City Council covers it with advertising boards. This year, for the first time, a 30-foot-high transparent crystal ball made of PVC has been constructed. It not only serves as protection but also has become a new must-photograph tourist attraction.
