“Love You for a Lifetime in 2014” — Taipei 101 Announces This Year’s New Year’s Eve Fireworks Theme

Loving you for just one lifetime isn’t enough — I want to love you for a whole century too. Not only is Taipei 101’s fireworks show this year as long as 218 seconds — the longest in history — but it also takes inspiration from the 2013-to-2014 transition homophone “love you for a lifetime, love you for a century” as the theme of this year’s display.

Taipei 101 announced the theme and animation for this year’s New Year’s Eve fireworks on the 4th. As it coincides with the 2013-to-2014 transition, the homophone “love you for a century” was chosen to create a romantic atmosphere. Additionally, as next year is the Year of the Horse (Gold Horse), the colors of this year’s fireworks will be primarily gold.

Moreover, to celebrate the 10th anniversary of Taipei 101’s completion this year, the number of fireworks launched will reach 24,000 — 2,000 more than last year. This year’s fireworks will also be choreographed to a specially composed piece of music.

To allow the public to enjoy the dazzling fireworks from the best possible vantage point after the countdown from 2013 to 2014, Taipei 101 has introduced a limited edition of 300 pairs of tickets for the “2013–2014 High-Rise Fireworks New Year’s Eve Experience.” The package includes a commemorative event certificate and a customized fireworks photo, among other services and gifts.

In terms of transportation, it’s worth noting that since the Xinyi Line has officially opened this year, the pressure of crowd dispersal after New Year’s Eve has been significantly reduced compared to previous years, so people no longer have to wait in the MRT stations until dawn. However, the Taipei City Fire Department reminds the public that Exit 4 of the Xinyi Line’s “Taipei 101/Trade Building Station” is located within the fallout zone of Taipei 101’s fireworks. To avoid danger, that exit will be closed for entry and exit during the countdown, though other exits will remain operational. Nearby YouBike rental stations in the area will also be temporarily removed on that day.
