Where Are the 100 Teddy Bears? The Ultimate Guide — The 101st Appears on Christmas

The teddy bear craze in Taichung is no less popular than the Yellow Duck, attracting an estimated 400,000 visitors since its launch on November 28. A total of 100 life-sized teddy bears are scattered across locations such as Qiuhong Valley, Civic Square, Caotun Boulevard, and the Museum of Fine Arts Qian, sparking a photo-collecting trend. Nowthe organizers have mysteriously hinted that the 101st hidden edition will appear on Christmas Day.

This is the question many “bear fans” who want to complete their collection are eager to know. Yesterday (5th), the organizers of the “2013 Teddy Bear Taichung Happy Carnival” revealed the locations where these adorable teddy bears have been spotted: 29 in Qiuhong Valley, 26 along Caotun Boulevard, 11 at the Museum of Fine Arts Qian, 17 at Civic Square, 4 along Art Garden Boulevard, and 6 at City Hall Plaza.

So where are the other 7? The answer is at Shin Kong Mitsukoshi Zhonggang Store in Taichung. But 3 of them, being “shy of the light,” are waiting for visitors inside the department store on the 10th floor, at the “Teddy Bear Happy Life Expo.” These three “large” bears include one near the ticket counter, and two that can only be seen upon entry — namely NO. 66, created by artist Xiao Qingyang, and NO. 93, the Q-version Happy Life Bear painted with the theme “Fruit Kingdom of Taiwan.”

Some visitors felt it was unreasonable to have to buy a ticket just to take photos with the teddy bears. The organizers explained that because the designs of No. 66 and No. 93 are highly intricate, any damage could lead to complicated restoration processes and would also affect the hard work of the creators. After careful consideration, it was decided to display them inside the exhibition area.

Additionally, NO. 16, the “Xinshe Purple Windmill Bear,” which was previously “stranded” alone alongside the Xinshe Flower Sea in Taichung, reunited with five other teddy bears on the evening of the 4th at City Hall Plaza to join the public festivities. Visitors are reminded not to go to the wrong location.

As for the future whereabouts of the “hidden edition” teddy bear, the organizers only said it is still under production. They hope to maintain the mystery until Christmas Day when it will be officially revealed. They also remind the public again: while enjoying the teddy bears, please remember to “take all the photos you want, but don’t touch,” so more people can admire these cute and intact teddy bears.
