“Top 10 Most Legendary Taiwanese Foods” – Donghe Buns and Ginger Duck Burgers Make the List

Over the course of two months, the campaign gathered more than 1,500 food photos from across Taiwan and selected 10 highly recommended local snacks hailed as “a revolution for the taste buds” by netizens to introduce to the public.

Taiwan is known as the “Kingdom of Cuisine.” Beyond internationally famous dishes like “bubble tea” and “beef noodle soup,” there are numerous local or individually created delicacies hidden throughout Taiwan that even native Taiwanese may not be able to name them all. Since September this year, the Tourism Bureau of the Ministry of Transportation and Communications has organized“Eat Like a King, Savor Taiwan’s Flavor”a food photo collection campaign, gathering over 1,500 food photos from around the island over two months and selecting 10 highly recommended Taiwanese snacks described as “a revolution for the taste buds” to introduce to the public.

To uncover more of Taiwan’s “hidden gem” specialty foods, the “Eat Like a King, Savor Taiwan’s Flavor” campaign specifically introduced three major food themes: “Legendary Foods,” “Attacking Foods,” and “Soul-Stirring Foods.” The public was invited to submit photos of unique dishes and vote for their favorites. In addition to attracting over 1,500 photo submissions, the campaign also received more than 120,000 votes, ultimately selecting 10 dishes that were widely recommended and talked about by netizens.

The 10 dishes are:

Legendary Foods: Donghe Buns, Taiji Beef Noodles, Mango Beef Strips

Attacking Foods: Mega Seafood Rice Balls, Ginger Duck Burgers, Beitou Giant Bowl Noodles, Fried Tofu Fries

Soul-Stirring Foods: Pineapple Fruit Cheese Cake, Dried Tofu Burger, Lucky Explosive Chicken

In addition to providing information on popular shops and the creative motivations behind these 10 distinctive and innovative dishes, the Tourism Bureau will also offer limited-time promotions on theTaiwan Tourism Calendarfor food lovers eager to embark on a gourmet adventure. Moreover, before January 3, 2014, visitors can present the discount coupon page for the respective shop from the “Savor Taiwan’s Flavor – Food Discount Map” within the “Taiwan Tourism Calendar” app to enjoy special prices for these incredibly legendary, super attacking, and soul-stirring creative Taiwanese flavors.
