The Golden Christmas Theme Pavilion: "Wooden Clip Reindeer" Takes You on a Treasure Hunt

There’s a new surprise at the Golden Christmas Season this year besides the 3D art landscape and light show — a newly set-up “Christmas Theme Pavilion” next to the Basilica of Our Lady of the Immaculate Conception in Wanjin. The pavilion features a reindeer crafted from thousands of wooden clips, paired with a sleigh, white trees, and a snowy scene, creating a strong winter Christmas atmosphere. The organizers have also set up an interactive area with commemorative stamps and blessing cards where visitors can write down their wishes and hang them on the Christmas tree for good luck.

The Pingtung County Tourism Department stated that most of the items displayed in the Christmas Theme Pavilion are handmade and creatively showcase local stories about religion, culture, tourism, and industry in Wanjin through cultural and creative products. Since the lighting ceremony on November 30th, the theme pavilion has become another popular attraction. Everyone is welcome to come and explore.

Upon entering the Christmas Theme Pavilion, besides seeing the reindeer and snow scenery displays, visitors can walk through the entrance of the Wanjin Tree-lined Avenue into the exhibition hall. A small forest path made of 20 southern pine logs features travel information and photos posted on each log, allowing visitors to enjoy strolling through the alleys and discovering fun.

The images on the walls of the theme pavilion showcase unique traditional cultures of the Wanjin Christmas season, such as the Basilica of Our Lady of the Immaculate Conception, the stick-beating team, and the ox-cart welcoming the Holy Infant. Drumsticks are also provided on-site for visitors to experience the stick-beating team culture and take photos. The pavilion has designed an installation art piece of “The Last Supper,” displaying local specialties of Wanjin such as coffee, cocoa, and Wanjin bricks on the dining table.

The organizers have also set up an interactive area where visitors can take photos hugging a small deer and choose from four types of commemorative stamps — the Wanjin Church, reindeer, Madonna rose, and little angel — to stamp themselves as souvenirs. After the visit, guests can write their wishes on colorful message cards and hang them on the wooden Christmas tree for blessings.
