6 Exploration Trails to Discover the Ocean – Keelung Maritime Science and Technology Museum to Open at End of December

The Keelung Maritime Science and Technology Museum, scheduled to open at the end of December, includes not only the main exhibition hall and the regional exploration pavilion, but also specially designed six exploration trails to help visitors learn about the ocean. In the future, there will also be regular guided tours by staff. The trails are planned around themes such as coastal geology and intertidal zones along the shore, with information signs installed along the way to introduce the local landscapes and ecology.

The exploration trails include“Coastal Geology,” “Intertidal Zone,” “Landscape Changes,” “Natural Ecology,” “Regional Exploration,” and “Rongxuan Park Area”. The “Coastal Geology” trail introduces coastal landscapes, starting from the Bajiaoting Oil Depot, where you can see cape bays, wave-cut platforms, and sea cliffs—scenic features of the northern coast.

The “Intertidal Zone” trail allows you to stroll along the coast, where you can view Jiufen and Keelung Mountain along the shoreline, as well as intertidal organisms such as hermit crabs and sea urchins. The “Landscape Changes” and “Regional Exploration” routes showcase humanistic and geographical landscapes.

You can also take a train from the “Rongxuan Park Area” to the maritime museum, where you’ll find a green tunnel formed by ancient banyan trees intertwined together, along with coastal scenery. The “Natural Ecology” trail is located within Bajiaoting Park and features various coastal plants, as well as wildlife such as butterflies and black kites.

Located in Bajiaoting, Keelung, the maritime museum is situated in a coastal geographical environment, so it has specially planned ecological parks and areas to help visitors better understand the ocean. In addition, parts of the museum are currently open to the public, including the IMAX Ocean Theater in the “Theme Hall” and the “Regional Exploration Pavilion.” Other areas of the theme hall will gradually open in the future.
